Concept

Artificial Intelligence is gaining a central role in the research and innovation ecosystem; its implementation and use are now indispensable in strengthening Europe's potential to compete globally.

In view of this goal, Europe has joined forces by setting up an “AI Action Plan” aimed at boosting the EU's technological and industrial capacity and AI uptake across the economy, prepare for socio-economic changes brought by AI and ensure an appropriate ethical and legal framework.

The Horizon Europe programme is one of the multiple investments tools mobilised by the European Commission, which, in line with the AI Continent Action Plan, supports research and innovation projects that are able to develop trustworthy and human-centric artificial intelligence.

The collaboration between SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities) disciplines and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) is one of the key elements for a holistic approach to enhancing artificial intelligence in Europe.

The brokerage event targets those interested in submitting proposals dealing with artificial intelligence in various fields, such as health, digital, climate and environment, and requiring the involvement of social sciences and humanities (such as sociology, ethics, laws, psychology, economics, linguistics, anthropology, etc).

The event is an opportunity to:

  • learn more about the topics in order to prepare a high-quality proposal
  • get more information about the effective collaboration between SSH and STEM
  • pitch your proposal idea or collaboration offer* - click HERE to apply
  • get in touch with other participants and start building interdisciplinary collaborations

*In addition, a pitching session will be open to both SSH and STEM experts, who will have the opportunity to present their expertise and/or project ideas. The session will offer added value for all participants, as it will enable a clearer and more immediate understanding of the diverse competencies involved and help identify potential partners for future collaboration.

Date: 25/02/2026

Time: 9.30 – 17.30

Mode: online at Net4Society's Community Portal

Target audience

  • Applicants from Cluster 1, Cluster 4, Cluster 5, and Cluster 6 with STEM or SSH expertise and interested in topics requiring the involvement of the social sciences and humanities
  • Applicants from social sciences and humanities disciplines who are interested in exploring opportunities for SSH disciplines beyond Cluster 2
  • All stakeholders active in the field of Artificial Intelligence

Topics to be focused on during the brokerage event

The draft work programmes of the entire Pillar 2 have been scanned and 18 topics have been identified. The topics have been selected according to the following criteria:

  • AI has a pivotal role in the topic text either in the expected outcomes or in the scope sections.
  • The topic text contains the “standard sentence” on SSH Integration or a clear mention of SSH activities or components.

The Commission will give a frontal presentation on only 12 out of the 18 identified topics, specifically those with deadlines after March/April 2026. SEE HERE the complete list of all topics. Those highlighted in red are scheduled to close in March/April 2026 and will therefore not be covered during the frontal presentation at the event.

Nevertheless all 18 topics have been included in the matchmaking system for event's afternoon brokerage meetings session.
